I recently got some watercolours for my birthday as wanted to learn how to paint with them. I always like to challenge myself to do something new so I have been watching a Frank Clarke DVD that I got from the library and have been aiming to paint a picture every night. Here are my first attempts:
this is a study of an autumnal tree that I completed tonight..quite like the tree trunk
this one is done using just burnt umber paint I love the way the rocks turned out
I like the tree on this one which was my 2nd attempt at a landscape.
These paintings take me less than an hour to do and I prefer painting to sitting down in front of the tv after a long day with my sons who are off school this week.

Nice work!
Well, if those are your first attempts I can't wait to see what you turn out with a bit of practice. They are great
Stunning for first attempts! You are obviously a natural! Love the burnt umber one it has a great atmosphere.
Hi Lorraine, thanks for your comments on my prints. Its taken a while for me to be confident enough to move forward with them! The mat cutter is a Logan compact cutter model 301-s. The best price I found and where I ordered it from (really fast delivery) was www.artsupplies.co.uk. It was originally £154 on sale for £95, free postage if you spend over £100 so I added a couple packs of blades to the order. It seems a lot of money but it took me 3 hrs to cut 3 mounts with the little bevel cutter I had and I messed them all up! I did all 18 mounts in two hrs with this one and all of them were perfect! Worth the money just for the time and stress saved! x
Very beautiful paintings! Can't believe you haven't painted with watercolors before. Have you tried watercolor pencils? I got some Inktense ones for last year's Christmas and really love them. Might put some on your wish list to play with. :)
watercolour is a challenge the paint and water do what they want. At some point we get to control it just a bit but the paint and water come up with some amazing things. You have done very well here, have you done watercolour before? I need to get back to it, I have probably forgotten all I learned and that wasn't much.........I will be back and looking forwards to seeing more.
