Remembering Jellyfish...

I recently heard on my local radio station Radio Merseyside that the old New Brighton beach was open again. I have really great memories of this beach as when I was a child we used to travel on the ferry across the River Mersey to New Brighton and then spend all day crabbing and exploring the rock pools of the beach. Sadly since the 1970s the beach went into decline but happily they are now rebuilding this great seaside pier and the beach is open now. Today I took my sons over to New Brighton and we had a marvellous time playing in the rock pools, building sandcastles in the new sand and having a paddle in the clear water and watching the big ships on the Mersey. However, my worst memory of New Brighton as a child was when I fell into a rock pool and got stung by jellyfish..unfortunately they are still there but my sons had great fun carefully scooping them up and throwing them into the sea so they didnt stand on them!!

I remember jellyfish from our childhood summer place in Maine, mostly the white ones accumulated on certain days but we were always wary of the red stinging ones.
I just love this photo, very much a nature's collage.

Ah, returning to the joys of childgood is such a wonderful thing, isn't it ? How wonderful that you can share that with your son. Reminds me of my love for raspberry picking in the summers as a kid, eating almost as many as went into the bucket but one time getting badly stung by a wasp wanting the same fruit as me !
Lessons learned...
Cheers !

Lorraine, That's a beautiful photo! At first I thought it was a piece of art because the perspective was so unusual. I grew up with lots of experience of jellyfish on the beach in Galveston.

Thanks for visiting!

Don't like jellyfish either, we don't have too many here. But the beach and playing in the sand, that is something I can relate to so well. Thanks for you comments. Love your butterfly reminder and your poetry tote. I had a chance to look around a bit, I see you love collage as much as I do.....Thanks, Corrine

I remember as a child holidaying in Exmouth, Devon and there were hundreds of jellyfish in the water and washed up on the beach. I found a clear spot on the beach and stood there screaming my head off until my parents took me back to where we were staying. I love looking at photos of them in the deep sea but in real life they make me shudder (but not as much as slugs - eek).
